Graphic Pots & Glaze Precision with Monica Viola - 4-Day - Weekday

Monday June 2 - Thursday June 5
1:00 pm - 4:00pm
Known for her sculptural pieces with hand-drawn, graphic elements, Monica Viola is also a master of glaze precision and layering. We are excited to welcome her into the studio to share her glaze and decorating knowledge at the Clay Studio Collective!
In this course, Monica will share new ways to use and apply glaze, and learn how to incorporate layers of decoration to add depth and complexity to your pieces. We will:
- Learn how to overlap multiple glazes and make clean line transitions between them
- Learn how to incorporate both gloss and matte glazes, oxide washes, and underglazes together to achieve surface variations and texture
- Make slab-built pieces* that work best as a blank canvas for applying slip decorating techniques, such as sgraffito
Students must bring a selection of bisqueware to class. Additional material cost is $40 (includes clay, underglaze, glaze, wax resist & liquid latex). Glaze and firings not included, unless a member of the CSC.
